I’ve been going through Aubrey de Grey (from SENS http://www.sens.org/) conferences at the Singularity University and checking on cross references on dramatic longevity.
His research field at the moment is the removing of Junk proteins from cells through transgenic microbial hydrolase. Identifying viruses who can live of the junk proteins that accumulate in and around cells (bioremediation process), cultivating and genetically modifying them to allow them to work in human cells in respect of metabolism homeostasis. Then he would have a bioengineered viral tool that would clean the human cells from accumulated garbage and rejuvenate the body.
This is one solution out of 7 types of metabolic damages identified:
1) Junk inside cells
2) Junk outside cells – dealt with Aubrey’s theory: phagocytosis by immune stimulation (transgenic design virus implantation)
3) Too few cells – dealt with stem cell therapy
4) Too many cells – if death resistant cells (cancer type) implanting of suicide genes by immune stimulation (always the modified virus carrier of the new gene sequence)
5) Mutations in Chromosomes – dealt through teleomerase / gene deletion and periodic stem cell therapy
6) Mutation in Mitochondria – dealt with allotropic expression of 13 proteins
7) Protein cross links – breaking molecules with enzymes ( equivalent to his research on cellular junk)
He claims his part can be done within two decades looking at the work the biotech community has achieved so far. This achievement would reverse 30 years of metabolism damage and would be applicable to middle aged people. By middle aged he means people in their fifties or sixties, giving theme thirty years of good healthy life!
Then, considering the evolution of research and the acceleration of breakthrough cycles, he puts the theory of “Longevity Escape Velocity”:
Those initial 30 years of good health reached within twenty years buys us time to benefit from the next generation of age damage obliteration technique. His own technique could be used few times with less efficiency due to the other hard to treat damage that is not dealt with, but new techniques among the 7 identified damages will be developed in the meanwhile, giving us the possibility of new rejuvenation therapies that would give us an extra 20, then an extra 30, then an extra 30 years.
We reach then a moment in the coming twenty years when the biological age slows down to a standstill and will then reverse in the future while the chronological age goes on.
A fourty years old today with the motivation to stay in shape with our team protocol through metabolic fine tuning and health accident prevention will reach the sixties in the full shape of a sporty fifty years old to benefit from a rejuvenation technology that would buy him 30 years of good life in the same shape.
That means he reaches ninety in 2060 in the body and sharp mind of a healthy Sixty years old to experience rejuvenation therapies of the second half of the 21st century and reduces his biological age to a sporty, healthy and sharp age less body living with energy and lust for life through the 2090’s.
I can tell you our man will savor his 22nd century new years eve’s party with champagne and all night dance!
